Program Overview: This training allows pharmacy technicians in the state of Arkansas to administer vaccines and immunizations if delegated to do so by a supervising pharmacist according to state regulations.

Participants must successfully complete the online self-study component and the injection technique assessment (the injection technique assessment must be done under the supervision of a pharmacist that is certified to give immunizations once the online portion is completed). Please keep a copy of completed assessment forms in a folder in the pharmacy and email a copy to Marlene Battle at [email protected]

Learning Objectives: (Knowledge)  

  1. Name the primary CDC-ACIP recommended vaccines that are available for a pharmacy technician to screen for a patient, then administer according to state practice model.
  2. Explain the benefits that a vaccine offers a patient along with the eligibility when administered to the patient.
  3. Discuss how to utilize CDC-ACIP immunization schedules for children and adults based on age, disease state, and occupation.
  4. Discuss best practices for a pharmacy technician to communicate with patients about vaccine safety concerns and address instances of vaccine hesitancy.
  5. Describe the role of Cold Chain Protocol to ensure appropriate storage requirements for vaccines, both in the pharmacy and for off-site immunization clinics.
  6. Describe how to screen a patient for eligibility and accurately document vaccine administration.

Learning Objectives:  Application

  1. Demonstrate the proper technique for both vial-dispensing of the vaccine along with the use of a pre-filled syringe with vaccine when preparing to vaccinate the patient.
  2. Demonstrate the proper injection technique to administer a vaccine for both an intramuscular and subcutaneous injection.
  3. Demonstrate the proper disposal technique for sharps, blood-borne vaccination supplies, vaccine containers, non-medical waste, and PHI on consent forms.

Accreditation Statement

The Institute for Wellness and Education, Inc., is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE) as a provider of continuing pharmacy education.   Participants of this course who completed all sections along with quizzes and evaluations for each section, and who have provided accurate CPE Monitor e-Profile information will have their credit for 3.0 contact hours (0.3 CEU) submitted to CPE Monitor, usually within 48 hours of completion of the evaluation.  The date of this CPE Activity is matched with the LIVE date of the virtual event.  

Please know that if accurate CPE Monitor e-Profile information is not provided within 60 days of the event, credit cannot be claimed after that time.
