The Arkansas Pharmacists Association (APA), founded in 1882, is the statewide professional association representing approximately 2,300 pharmacists in Arkansas.  APA strives to further the professional advancement of pharmacists, advocate the value of pharmacy, and safeguard the health and well-being of every Arkansan.  Its mission is to advance a professional and business environment for Arkansas pharmacists to be successful and fulfilled in serving patients.

Government Affairs Committee


APA's Government Affairs Committee considers issues related to the profession of pharmacy and the public including developing, evaluating, and monitoring legislation, regulation, or other political activities affecting pharmacy.  The Committee also considers issues pertaining to any person, company, or organization involved as a third party entity affecting the profession of pharmacy such as: Pharmacy Benefit Managers (PBMs), Drug Manufacturers, Third Party Administrators (TPAs), Consultants and Government Programs.

Government Affairs

According to APA Membership Surveys, the top five most important member benefits include: 1) APA's work with health plans to facilitate pharmacy issues; 2) lobbying efforts; 3) staff response to pharmacy questions; 4) CPE programs; and 5) APA outreach to stakeholders. 

APA staff works daily to keep members informed of important issues, including APA’s work with health plans to facilitate pharmacy and lobbying and outreach efforts.

Arkansas Pharmacists Political Action Committee (AP-PAC) - State legislators need financial support from pharmacists to successfully campaign for office.  AP-PAC allows pharmacists to support those who support pharmacy.

MAC and PBM Audit Bills
Act 1194 of the 89th General Assembly addresses issues surrounding Maximum Allowable Cost (MAC) payments.  In addition, the 88th General Assembly in 2011 passed Act 517, the Pharmacy Audit Bill of Rights. This bill provides a number of audit protections. Click here to view details on both bills.
